Overview
The Reimagine Nauticus Campaign is a comprehensive $21.5 Million redesign project to align its educational programming with five, new, state-of-the-art exhibits and lobby space. These new exhibit galleries will focus on telling the story of the maritime environment, maritime industry and the military. Within this, Nauticus’ guiding objective is to become the leading Maritime Discovery Center in the Mid-Atlantic region.
This two-fold project accomplishes that objective by (1) establishing a new, holistic educational approach focused on maritime-related sciences, careers and innovations and (2) creating a maritime-focused environment utilizing state-of-the-art exhibit experiences and engaging interactives. This strategic alignment charts a course for the next generation of families, learners, and professionals. A new Nauticus will provide students and visitors with access to STEM education and a broader understanding of career paths and opportunities, thereby creating a “pipeline” for maritime-related businesses and industry.
Approximately 25,000 square feet of exhibit gallery space is reimagined in five separate visitor experiences. Each of the five new themes is founded in proven exhibit design principles of greater interactivity, engagement and participation, and utilizes leading approaches to greater sustainability, reliability and longevity. In addition to exhibit gallery, Nauticus’ lobby space will also be redesigned for an enhanced and modern visitor experience.
