Virtual Learning with Nauticus
Snails and Scales on the Trail! – recommended for kids and families
Saturday, Sept 26: 11:00 am – 11:30 am (ET)
Check out what lives right in our backyard! The Elizabeth River is full of marine life we can easily see, but there’s also a whole world too small to view with the naked eye. Take a walk on the Elizabeth River Trail or in your own backyard and collect specimens along the way. We will use a variety of methods to get a closer look at the hidden creatures in our local waters, even building a tool that they can use at home! We will also learn how to use a smart phone app as a way to participate in a Citizen Scientist opportunity and help document the local plants and animals we observe!
Materials: Water bottle, recycled clear plastic lids, Scissors, Magnifying glass, Double sided tape, Specimens (Collect dead bugs, small flowers, shells, and more from along the Elizabeth River Trail or your yard), Pipette or paintbrush, Sharpie
