November E-News
Haunted ShipBB64: Paranormal Investigation Enjoys Scary Success
On Thursday, October 20, Nauticus kicked off its brand new Halloween event, “BB64: Paranormal Investigation.” These eerie haunted ship tours of the Wisconsin’s second level have received rave reviews from both participants and volunteers, many of whom have returned night after night. Everyone agrees that below decks after hours, the thrills are very real! The tireless efforts of the many Nauticus staff and volunteers who contributed paid off royally – tours sold out almost every night, with lines extending down the pier in front of the Battleship Wisconsin.
Preschool Science Adventures!
On November 1, bring the kids (ages two to five) at 10:30 a.m. to our second installment of Preschool Science Adventures. This program for our youngest guests is included in regular Nauticus admission and has been drawing enthusiastic crowds since it began last month. November’s theme is Creature Feature, and the Norfolk Public Library will be on hand to present a story time and craft. For more information call (757) 664-1044 or email
Military Members and their Families Get in Free on Veterans Day!
To honor our service men and women, on Veterans Day, November 11, active military and their families (with i.d.) get in free! A special exhibit of photographs from our “Note to the Troops” tribute wall will be on display. Response to the chalkboard “exhibit,” which gives the public a chance to say thank you to those who serve our country, has been overwhelmingly positive – visitors passing the board often take pictures of it as well as contributing a personal message. Photos of each day’s messages are posted on the Nauticus website, as well as on both Nauticus' and BB-64's FaceBook pages, so that even those currently overseas can view them. The public is welcome to continue writing messages through Thanksgiving Day.

The Holidays are the Time for Giving
As the holiday season approaches and you begin your annual flurry of listmaking, please consider a donation to Nauticus as part of this year’s Annual Giving Campaign. VolunteerVolunteers! Help us Restore BB-64!
Nauticus is pleased to unveil a new program that provides some exciting opportunities to make a valuable contribution to your community. Whether you’re part of a Scout troop or a Navy command, this “adopt a space” group volunteer program has a way for you to help restore and maintain the Battleship Wisconsin.  Both youth and adult groups are welcome! Tasks vary, but include general cleaning, painting and minor repairs depending on the designated space and its needs. Nauticus will provide all supplies and tools. In addition, depending on interest and level of expertise, groups are welcome to research their space in order to help with visitor interpretation.

Each Restore BB 64 group will be acknowledged in both their assigned space and inside Nauticus. Groups must complete an application and interview in order to participate. Visit for more information or contact Juli Mansfield at (757) 664-1043 or

A BIG thank you to all the volunteers that helped make our first-ever BB64: Paranormal Investigation tours a huge success; we could not have done it without you!
