Nauticus Celebrates 82 Years of the Battleship Wisconsin with a Waterfront Event

Special programming, exclusive tours, and free admission for military children highlight this milestone celebration

Norfolk, Va. (April 7, 2026) — Nauticus invites the community to celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the legendary Battleship Wisconsin on Saturday, April 11 from 9 AM to 5 PM. One of the largest and last battleships ever built by the U.S. Navy, the Wisconsin will be the centerpiece of a full day of immersive experiences, hands-on learning, and special programming for all ages.

As part of this celebration—and in recognition of Month of the Military Child—military families can enjoy free child admission with the purchase of a military adult ticket throughout April thanks to the generous support of Chase. This offer makes the Battleship’s anniversary an even more meaningful opportunity for families to connect with naval history together.

Guests visiting Nauticus will experience the Battleship Wisconsin like never before, with opportunities to explore new spaces like the bakery, Damage Control Central, and more, engage in maritime traditions, and hear firsthand stories from those who served. Throughout the day, visitors can participate in hands-on activities including knot tying, rope making, and interactive demonstrations.

One of the most exciting aspects of the day is the opportunity to go deeper into the ship’s history through a lineup of exclusive tours. Guests can choose from the VIP Experience, offering rare access to behind-the-scenes areas, or explore the ship’s inner workings through Command & Control and Life in the Engine Room tours. Families can also enjoy the Battleship 101 Tour, a guided, accessible introduction to the ship’s most iconic spaces.

In addition to tours, Nauticus will host a variety of educational and creative programming throughout the campus. Visitors can hear from veterans during “Ask a Vet” talks, enjoy showings of Secrets of the Sea and The Last Battleship, and participate in a Jellyfish Light Workshop, where guests can create a glowing, ocean-inspired keepsake.

“This celebration is about more than a birthday—it’s about honoring the stories, innovation, and impact of the Battleship Wisconsin while creating meaningful, hands-on experiences for our community,” said Rehn West Saunders, Deputy Director of Advancement and External Affairs. “From exclusive tours to family-friendly activities, there’s something for everyone to discover.”

This one-day event offers a unique opportunity to experience one of America’s most iconic naval vessels while enjoying a vibrant day of programming on Norfolk’s waterfront.
