Lighthouse Lens

The invention of Fresnel lens was a massive step forward in lighthouse technology, and therefore also in maritime safety. In a Fresnel lens, hundreds of pieces of specially cut-glass prisms surround a lamp bulb, intensify the light into a single beam of light that can be seen up 23 miles away.

Come join us for an interactive floor program that tests your skills at bending light and see of you have what it takes to be a lighthouse lampist.

This special program is included in Nauticus’ general admission.
