Welcome aboard Nauticus’ new summer camp! Our award-winning camp has been reinvented for 2020 and is packed full of nonstop hands-on and minds-on experiences!

Your child will explore the entire Nauticus campus as they dive into STEM-based activities onboard our Harbor 20 sailboats, the Schooner Virginia, the Battleship Wisconsin and inside Nauticus! Throughout the week, campers will test their hands at sailing up-wind, building underwater robots and much more. Let them teach you what it takes for a 58,000-ton steel ship to float or how over 6,500 square feet of sails are controlled by a tall ship’s crew!

The ultimate ending will involve your child constructing their own makeshift boat to compete with their teammates in a regatta–encompassing all that they’ve learned during the week.

This will be your child’s new favorite week of summer.

FAQs!

COVID 19 Update

Nauticus continues to monitor health conditions regarding COVID-19 as we receive guidance from state and local officials. At this time, we are moving forward with plans to offer our Design. Build. Sail camp this summer, with a start date of July 13, 2020.

The following safeguards and procedures are being put in place and we will continue to add, or modify as further guidance is received:

· Prior to the start of camp, you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire as it relates to the current health of campers and families.

· Daily drop-off and pick-up will occur in the circle in front of Nauticus. Staff will direct you to drive-up when we are ready to receive campers for the day. Please stay in your car.

· Upon arrival each morning campers and staff will receive contact-less temperature checks. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4+ degrees will not be permitted at camp.

· We have limited the number of campers to 12 each week and re-structured our activities to ensure we are able to comfortably distance ourselves throughout the day.

· Social distancing may not be possible in all activities and face coverings should be worn unless your child has a medical condition that would cause difficulty breathing with a mask on. Camp staff and volunteers will be required to wear face coverings.

· Campers will have their own allocated space to leave their belongings and should bring lunches in labeled coolers and water bottles to stay hydrated.

· Frequent hand washing and other sanitation safeguards will be scheduled throughout the day. Designated staff members will be responsible for daily sanitation of the program equipment and facilities.

Please look for further communications as we get closer to your registered camp week. If COVID-19 forces further cancellations, we will update you immediately and offer a rescheduled date or refund at that time. If you have any questions at this time, please let us know.

We thank you for your understanding and continued support of Nauticus programming.

How early/late can I drop off/pick up my child?

Please drop your child off in front of Nauticus at 8:30a.m. daily and pick them up at the same place at 3:30p.m. A Sail Nauticus instructor will meet campers in the front loop of Nauticus for drop off and pickup. Late pick-up is available daily for $45/wk.

Who will accompany my child on the sailboat?
Children in groups of three or four will be taught by a trained instructor on each Harbor 20 sailboat.
Can my child be on the same boat as his/her sibling/friend?
While we try to give our campers a diverse experience and encourage new friendships, we will do our best to accommodate your request!
What happens if it rains?
Sailing in the rain is a sail you’ll remember, especially if the wind is up. However, safety is our priority, and we will not sail if lightning and thunder or any other threatening weather conditions are a factor, nor will we sail in winds above 20 knots. If poor weather occurs, land-based activities will be held until the weather clears up.
What if my child barely misses the age cut-off? Do you make exceptions?
We will be happy to add your child to our wait list for camp if they do not meet the age criteria. We will notify you no later than one week before camp if we are able to accommodate them.
Do you provide lunch?
No. Please ensure your child brings a bag lunch and a snack daily.
